Tightening without moving

Three fixed crop windows turn a paper courier's delivery into rising tension. The framing changes only at source frames 80 and 160. No crop window moves inside its section, and every output frame maps one to one onto its source.

This is a Keyframe0 studio original, produced end to end in-house.

The finished work record presents the excerpt, held frame, timing strip, decisions, and handoff.

What had to exist

The source shows a folded-paper fox courier skating along a paper street with a parcel under one arm. The job: build pressure through framing while touching nothing about the source action.

The excerpt runs 240 frames, an even ten seconds. Every output frame maps one to one onto its source.

Three crop windows define the sequence. The first holds until source frame 80, the second until frame 160, the third carries the final section. Each window stays bolted down for its complete section.

The framing decision

The sequence tightens by cutting between fixed rectangles. A moving punch-in would have manufactured camera movement the source never had, and the record would have been describing a lie. The two cuts make the rising pressure visible while the source motion inside each section stays untouched.

The final section uses one master pixel per delivery pixel. No scaling at all in the tightest frame, which is where detail matters most.

The verification decision

The frame mapping was measured, not eyeballed. Frame 200 compared against its own rectangle scores 45.9 dB. The same frame against the wrong rectangle scores 11.6 dB. The crop assignment either holds up to that test or it doesn't, and here it does.

The decision record preserves all three crop rectangles, their origins, and the two cut frames alongside those measurements.

The timing strip

The six-frame timing strip shows each framing at its start and at the frame immediately before its cut. The fixed-window construction becomes something you can see instead of something you have to take on description.

The strip sits beside a held frame from the paper street. Together they show the source world and the edit pattern that made the finished passage.

What shipped

The handoff contains:

  • The excerpt at 1920 by 824
  • A landscape poster
  • A 4:5 poster
  • A six-frame timing strip

The edit decision list records the three crop rectangles, their origins, and the cut points at source frames 80 and 160.
