Motion

Holding the valley

A rider crests a rocky overlook and the valley opens behind them, in one long hold that sells the scale.

On the record

The piece, by the numbers.

  1. 01240 frames, an even ten seconds at 24 fps, silent.
  2. 02Cut from the 4398x1886 master, not from a web delivery.
  3. 03Posters are cropped at master resolution and then downscaled, never enlarged.
From a rocky overlook, horse and rider face a twilight valley scattered with distant fires.

Held frameA single frame from the piece, held. If it reads on its own, the motion around it holds too.

Decisions

The calls that shaped it, written down.

  1. 01Recut the whole thing from the master. The first version had been derived from a 1920 wide web delivery, which the standard forbids as a source.
  2. 02Hold the shot rather than trim it. The evidence here is hold time, light, and subject scale, and shortening it removes the evidence.

Working artifact

Kept with the piece.

Six frames spaced across ten seconds as the valley opens behind the rider.

Handoff

What shipped.

  • Excerpt at 1920x824, a landscape and a 4:5 poster, and a six-frame timing strip.
  • The source hash and measured frame count for the master, so the derivation can be repeated.
